Industry leaders in sustainability

At Dilworth Homes, we're shaping the future of homebuilding through innovative, high-performance, and sustainable design. Our mission is to create homes that are not only energy-efficient but also resilient, accessible, and ready to meet the challenges of a changing climate.

We lead with intention—prioritizing resilient materials, reducing carbon emissions, and optimizing energy performance in every project. Though not yet required by local regulations, every Dilworth home is built to exceed BC Energy Step Code 4 standards, delivering up to 40% greater energy efficiency compared to Step Code 3.

By integrating advanced building practices and forward-thinking design, we’re committed to raising the bar for sustainable living—creating homes that are healthier for families and better for the planet.

What is the BC Energy Step Code?

The BC Energy Step Code is a provincial standard that sets energy efficiency targets for new homes, from Step 3 to Step 5. Each step represents a higher level of performance in areas like insulation, air tightness, and mechanical systems.

Since May 2023, all new homes in BC are required to meet Step Code 3. At Dilworth Homes, we go further—every home we build meets and exceeds Step Code Level 4.

This higher standard means our homes are designed for optimized comfort, enhanced indoor air quality, and greater resilience to extreme weather. By building to Step 4, we also significantly reduce the carbon footprint of every home—supporting a healthier future for both homeowners and the environment.

Dilworth Homes Building Science Air Barrier

High-Performance Air Barrier

At Dilworth Homes, we take a whole-home approach to energy efficiency—and one of the most important elements is the high-performance air barrier system. This system is carefully planned and integrated into both the interior and exterior of the home during design and construction. It’s not just a layer—it’s a coordinated part of the building envelope that works with your insulation, windows, ventilation, and mechanical systems to keep your home performing at its best.

To verify our work, we conduct Blower Door tests twice: once during mid-construction and again at final completion. This testing allows us to find and correct any potential air leaks before the home is finished, ensuring long-term performance and peace of mind.

Dilworth homes routinely achieve airtightness levels that meet or exceed Step 5 and Passive House level air tightness targets—one of the world’s most rigorous energy efficiency standards. That’s a level of quality and performance you can feel every day.

Dilworth Homes Building Science Home Mechanical systems

Highly Efficient Mechanical Systems

At Dilworth Homes, we prioritize your comfort and the energy efficiency of your home with a range of highly efficient mechanical systems. These systems work together to ensure your home stays comfortable year-round, while also helping to reduce energy consumption and lower your environmental impact.

Each system is carefully chosen and integrated to work together as a cohesive unit. By combining the best technologies for heating, cooling, air quality, and hot water, Dilworth Homes ensures your home is not only comfortable and efficient but also built for long-term sustainability.

Efficiency from the Ground Up

At Dilworth Homes, energy efficiency doesn’t stop at the walls and roof—it starts beneath your feet. That’s why we include high-performance under-slab insulation in every home we build. This layer helps keep floors warmer, reduces heat loss to the ground, and minimizes moisture, all while improving indoor air quality. It’s a key part of our commitment to building comfortable, durable, and energy-efficient homes.

Dilworth Homes Building Science Home with Open Web Joist System

Structural Reinforcement

Structural reinforcement is key to ensuring the durability and stability of your home, and we prioritize this through advanced systems like the open web floor joist system. This process allows for easier routing of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems within the floor cavity. Unlike traditional solid wood joists, open web floor joists are made of a series of interconnected webbed trusses, typically using wood or metal, creating superior structural support. By using this innovative reinforcement method, we create homes that are both structurally sound and adaptable to future needs, ensuring long-term performance and safety.

Net Zero Ready

At Dilworth Homes, we’re proud to be part of the CHBA-Net Zero and Net Zero Ready Labeling Program, a certification that ensures our homes meet the highest standards of energy efficiency and sustainability. When you see a Net Zero or Net Zero Ready label on a Dilworth home, it means the home has been carefully built to minimize energy use, reduce environmental impact, and deliver superior long-term performance.

By choosing a CHBA-Net Zero or Net Zero Ready home from Dilworth Homes, you’re investing in a property that’s not only sustainable but also built to provide enhanced comfort, improved air quality, and long-term durability. These homes align with a growing commitment to environmentally responsible living while ensuring your home is future-proof for years to come.
